Engineering and Development Management Building of Sepahan Company

The purpose of designing this building is to create a suitable environment for research, investigation, and development for Sepahan Company located in the Isfahan Science and Technology Town (ISTT). Efforts were made to ensure that the concept of the building formation while adapting to its natural context (topography and climate), aligns conceptually with its performance and objectives as well. Generally, the purpose of establishing research-based and knowledge-based companies is to advance and develop within a specific branch of science. These companies serve as hubs for generating new ideas, scientific and technical breakthroughs, and the exploration of innovative horizons in science. One of the most important and frequently discussed terms among researchers and scholars in knowledge-based and research-oriented companies is “breakthrough,” referring to a significant and pivotal discovery or development in science. Accordingly, “breakthrough” was selected as the conceptual idea guiding this project, aligning with the objectives set by knowledge-based companies and research and development initiatives. Scientists and theorists often conceptualize sciences as a circular structure known as the “circle of sciences,” where each scientific advancement has the potential to expand the boundaries of knowledge. Therefore, the created gap is envisioned as a rotating form, symbolizing the continuous progress and expansion of the circle of sciences, starting from a small point and gradually broadening.

This gap begins at the entrance of the site from the side of Isfahan (symbolizing scientific and historical heritage) and deepens, creating a void towards the horizon of the sky and mountains (symbolizing new horizons and echoing the future). Furthermore, the placement of the created gap aligns with the topography of the land and desired vistas. In such a way, this gap takes on a linear form that divides the land into two distinct topographies, resembling a circular shape, with one side facing towards the city of Isfahan and the other side towards the mountains and sky. Functionally, the gap and void created in the central area can serve as the heart of the complex, providing desirable working conditions for researchers. Since researchers and employees of this complex spend more than 8 hours a day in this place, a user-centered approach has been considered for design, creating dynamic and vibrant human-centric spaces to provide users with desirable qualities so they can enjoy being in various forms while working. The central void, as the heart of the complex, provides researchers with a suitable environment with natural light and desirable views, allowing them to engage in conversations, collaboration, and interaction beyond the typical and conventional patterns of office spaces. This space fosters face-to-face meetings in a warm and active manner, with the potential for multiple and diverse behaviors and functions such as socializing, conversation, collaboration, study, relaxation, and even play. Additionally, it enables light to penetrate deeply into the ground and lower floors in a desirable manner, providing users in that part of the complex with a pleasant space.
